Olympic champions Elaine Thompson
Herah of Jamaica and Karsten
Warholm of Norway have been named
the World Athletes of the Year at the
World Athletics Awards 2021, a ceremony
held virtually on Wednesday.
World Athletics said that Thompson
Herah produced “one of the finest
sprint seasons in history this year,”
retaining her Olympic 100m and 200m
titles in Tokyo, and adding a third gold
medal in the 4x100m relay.
On top of her Olympic triple, World
Athletics noted that Thompson-Herah
also clocked world-leading times of
10.54 and 21.53 over 100m and 200m
respectively, moving to second on the
world all-time lists and coming within
touching distance of the long-standing
world records.

CWI, USA to
co-host T20 WC

ICC announced last week that Cricket
West Indies (CWI) and USA cricket
will co-host the 2024 Men’s T20 World
Cup .
CWI President, Ricky Skerrit said
the strategic partnership and vision of
CWI and USA Cricket for the 2024 T20
World Cup is geared towards growing
the game in the Americas by re-energizing
the sport with a new generation
of fans in the West Indies and unlocking
cricket’s potential in the USA.
Skerritt and CEO Johnny Grave are
both looking forward to the partnership
with USA Cricket unlocking more possibilities
for game in the Caribbean and
in North America.
