Fast bowling icon Michael Holding
said he was optimistic of Cricket West
Indies (CWI) implementing some of
the major recommendations arising
from the recent Wehby Governance
Report.
Holding, 66, now a well-known international
television cricket analyst, said
while he was happy with the review of
the governance of West Indies cricket,
he was worried the CWI board of directors
would be reticent about adopting
the proposals, especially those which
threatened their own existence.
He said if the directors had the success
of West Indies cricket at heart,
they would be motivated to put the
development of the game before their
own well-being.
Speaking during an interview on a
Caribbean L 38 ife, Sept. 4-10, 2020
local radio station in Trinidad, Holding
asked, “Are the board members going
to vote for some of (themselves) to stay
in office?”
“I doubt it very much because a lot
of those people in my opinion are not
there to help West Indies cricket, they
are there because they think it’s a big
deal to be a part of the West Indies
Cricket board,” he said.
“Every time these recommendations
come forward, I get the impression
that’s what people are thinking,”
Holding said.
An independent task force, headed
by Jamaican businessman Don Wehby,
was asked by Cricket West Indies to
review the governance structure of the
regional body and recently put forward
several proposals aimed at “improving
the governance of CWI.”

saying he was waiting to hear about
his results.
The only sprinter to win the 100-

three consecutive Olympics (2008,
2012, and 2016) said he did not have
any symptoms of the COVID-19 virus

the novel coronavirus.
Bolt said he took the test after
he celebrated his birthday at a bash
where partygoers danced to the hit

the world including the Indian Premier

TKR has won its fourth consecutive
match to start the CPL tournament
with a victory over St. Lucia
Zouks.
Bravo took two wickets for seven
runs in the rain-affected match in
which the Zouks scored 111 in 17.1

After a two-hour rain delay, TKR

get ready to get on the park.”
West Indies will battle England
behind closed doors in the series which
runs from Sept. 21-30 at the Incora
County Ground in England. The series
replaces scheduled tours by South Africa
and India, CMC said.
It said the series takes place amid
the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and
signals the return of women’s cricket
to the international schedule since
all cricket was suspended globally last
March due to the outbreak.
The United Kingdom has been hard
hit by COVID-19 with 336 000 cases
and 41, 500 deaths, “but the country
has slowly begun to reopen following
months of lockdown,” CMC said.
For West Indies, it said the series will
be the first bilateral fixture in nearly a
year following the series against India
in the Caribbean last November.
West Indies will be led by regular
captain Stafanie Taylor but will miss
veteran off-spinner and vice-captain
Anisa Mohammed after the Trinidadian
opted out due to COVID-19 concerns,
CMC said.
The squad comprises: Taylor, Afy
Fletcher, Hayley Matthews, Aaliyah
Alleyne, Cherry Ann Fraser, Natasha
Mclean, Shemaine Campbelle, Shabika
Gajnabi, Chedean Nation, Britney
Cooper, Sheneta Grimmond, Karishma
Ramharack, Shamilia Connell, Chinelle
