 Teachers union, Brooklyn
 Dems endorse Judge Paul
 By Nelson A. King
 The United Federation of Teachers
 (UFT) and the Brooklyn Democratic
 Party on Monday endorsed Haitian
 American Judge Dweynie Esther Paul
 for Brooklyn Surrogate Court.
The endorsement adds to the scores
of public officials and New York City’s
 most -powerful labor organizations that
are supporting Judge Paul in the June
 22 Democratic primary election.
“Judge Paul has both the judicial and
 real-world experience that our Brooklyn
teachers need in a Surrogate’s Court
 Judge,” said Michael Mulgrew, president
 of the 200,000-member-strong UFT.
“She will fight for working families
 across Brooklyn.”
 Brooklyn Democratic Party chairwoman
 Assemblywoman Rodneyse
 Bichotte Hermelyn, the daughter of
 Haitian immigrants, said Judge Paul
is “the only candidate truly qualified
to reform the Surrogate’s Court, and I
am proud to see one of our city’s most
 powerful unions backing her.
“Judge Paul stands strong for workers,
and that is why she is getting so
 much support from organized labor,”
 added Bichotte Hermelyn, who represents
 the 42nd Assembly District in
 Brooklyn.
Judge Paul, also the daughter of Haitian
immigrants, is a product of New
York City public schools and previously
served in Family Court, where she presided
 over guardianship cases involving
children, embodying a sincere desire to
 protect our community’s most precious
 assets.
“I could not be prouder to have the
 support of our courageous, innovative,
and dedicated New York City, teachers,”
said Judge Paul. “Their commitment to
our children’s success during the pandemic
 has highlighted their heroism.
“I will work every day to ensure that
teachers and the families they serve
 secure economic justice through the
 transfer of intergenerational wealth,”
 she added.
 The UFT’s endorsement comes on
the heels of those of many other labor
 organizations, including the Retail,
 Wholesale, and Department Store Union
 (RWDSU)—UFC; Teamsters Local 237;
 Transport Workers Union Local 100;
 Amalgamated Transit Union; District
Council 37; Local 371 Social Service
 Employees Union (SEIU); Hotel Trade
Council; Local 1407; Alliance of South
Asian Labor (ASAAL); and Local 372
 Board of Education employees.

also supported by a diverse group of
 leaders throughout Brooklyn, including
 Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke,
 the  daughter  of  Jamaican  immigrants;
