year which Grave described in an
interview last year as “financially
horrible.”
And while lucrative 2019 home
series tour against England and
India had been expected to be a
huge boost to CWI’s coffers, Grave
said recently that with international
media companies experiencing
“enormous pressure and
strain, it was critical CWI continued
to exercise prudence in managing
its financial affairs.
Apart from broadcast rights revenue,
Grave indicated that key to
CWIs finances will be the redevelopment
of the Coolidge Cricket
Ground in Antigua, formerly the
Stanford Cricket Ground.
He said CWI was poised to
undertake long term financing on
the venue in order to underwrite
“ambitious” redevelopment plans,
which would ultimately lead to
increased revenue.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) recently
announced that given the confirmed
cases of COVID-19 in the region the season
have been delayed for 30 days. The
suspension took effect two weeks ago.
The decision affected the final two
rounds of the West Indies Championships,
the Women’s Super50 Cup in
Guyana and two youth tournaments in
Trinidad.

Cricket West Indies has aborted the
remaining two rounds of the domestic
First Class Championship and declared
leaders Barbados Pride champions of the
2020 season.
The decision was taken following a
board of directors teleconference meeting
last week, where the governing body also
moved to scrap the Regional Under-15s
Boys Championship and the West Indies
Under-15 tour to England scheduled to
take place this summer.
CWI had recently suspended the First
Class Championship following eight
rounds of matches, due to the outbreak
of the coronavirus pandemic in the Caribbean
and also postponed the Under-
15 Boys Championship, the Women’s
Super50 Cup and the inaugural Regional
Under-19 Women’s T20 Championship.
Despite the cancellations, CWI hopes
to salvage the Women’s Super50 Cup
and the Regional Under-19s Women T20
Championship and have postponed them
until later this year.

faced with the challenges presented by
the covid19 pandemic,” said CWI chief
executive officer Johnny Grave.
“We will continue to monitor and
access the situation and make further
decisions and announcements in due
course,” he added.
When the First Class Championship
Windies Cricket
was halted, Pride topped the standings
with 134.8 points, well ahead of second
place Trinidad and Tobago Red Force on
94.6 points.
Grave said the decision among the
directors had been “unanimous” to
award Pride the Headley/Weekes Trophy.
