 Sri Lanka beats Windies in tense finish

 West Indies lost their opening One- 
 Day  International  (ODI)  against  Sri  
 Lanka in Colombo last week by a narrow  
 one-wicket in a tense three-match. 
 Sent in to bat at the Sinhalese Sports  
 Club Ground, West Indies scored 289 for  
 seven from their 50 0vers supported by  
 Shai Hope’s ninth ODI century, scoring  
 115 from 140 balls- his third century in  
 the last eight innings  and fifth in the  
 last 10 months.

 Roston Chase (41) and Darren Bravo  
 both got starts but failed to carry on  
 while all-rounder Kemo Paul lashed a  
 17-ball unbeaten 32 batting at number  
 eight to give the Windies a strong finish. 
 Captain Dimuth Karunaratne then  
 top  scored with  52  off  57  deliveries  in  
 a century opening stand with Avishka  
 Fernando (50) while Kisal Perera struck  
 42 off 50 balls. 
 However, it was Man-of-the-Match  
 Wanindu Hasaranga with an unbeaten  
 42 0ff 39 balls which turned the game in  
 Sri Lanka’s favor, in a 38-run, seventhwicket  
 stand off 30 balls with Thisara  
 Perera, who struck a cameo 32 from 22  
 balls to give his side victory with five  
 balls to spare in the final over. 
 For the West Indies, the defeat left  
 them trailing in the three-match series,  
 needing to win the remaining match  
 series in order to clinch their first-ever  
 ODI series win on Sri Lanka soil.

 West Indies cricket legend Brian Lara  
 will take on India’s cricketing icon Sachin  
 Tendulkar in the much anticipated “West  
 Indies Legends” opening match of the  
 Unacademy Road Safety World Series at  
 the historic Wankhede Stadium in India  
 starting on March 7. 
 The tournament, which will witness  
 the clash of titans from several cricketlaying  
 nations will have the final at the  
 Brabourne Stadium Cricket Club of India  
 (CCI) ground on Mrch 22. 
 The Unacademy Road Safety World  
 Series, is a five-nation Twenty20 cricket  
 tournament which will showcase some of  
 the biggest names in cricket from India,  
 Australia, and South Africa. The five teams  
 are namely, India Legends, West Indies  
 Legends, including Lara, Shivnarine  
 Chanderpaul, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Darren  
 Ganga,  former  West  Indies  captain  Carl  
 Hooper, Ridley Jacobs who will serve as  
 wicket-keeper` and former spinners Samuel  
 Badree and Sulieman Benn, which will  
 be among the stars in the squad. 
 Yohan Blake, a Jamaican sprinter who  
 is the second fastest man in the world after  
 his fellow countryman Usain Bolt, will also  
 showcase his cricketing skills. Blake won  
 gold at the 100m even in the 2011 World  
 Championships. 
 A total of 11 matches will be played in  
 the competition, where Wankhede Stadium  
 will  host  two  matches.  MCA  Stadium  
 Pune will host  four,  similarity  four  
 matches will be played at the DY Patil Stadium  
 in Navi Mumbai, whereas the final  
 will take place at the Brabourne Stadium  
 on March 22.

 has since attained the required fitness  
 level,  becoming  available  for  
 selection and has  been included  in  
 the squad.
