CONCACAF on Tuesday confirmed
the participating clubs,
dates and venues for the Confederation’s
two Caribbean club
competitions taking place in
2022, the CONCACAF Caribbean
Club Championship (CCCC) and
CONCACAF Caribbean Club
Shield (CCCS).
CONCACAF said the two
regional tournaments, for professional
and amateur clubs
respectively, are part of the Confederation’s
club competitions
structure and qualify teams
to the Scotiabank CONCACAF
Champions League (SCCL) and
Scotiabank CONCACAF League
(SCL).
In total, four Caribbean clubs
will advance to Confederation
wide club competitions, including
three for the 2022 SCL and
one for the 2023 SCCL.
“On behalf of Concacaf I
would like to express my gratitude
to the Football Federations
of Puerto Rico and the Dominican
Republic for partnering with
the confederation to host these
important Caribbean club competitions,”
said CONCACAF General
Secretary, Philippe Moggio.
“The Caribbean Club Championship
and CONCACAF Caribbean
Club Shield are fantastic
tournaments, which showcase
the best of Caribbean club football
as the clubs strive to qualify
for continental club competition,”
he added. “We look forward
to these important matches in
April and May.”
CONCACAF said the 2022
CCCC will take place in the
Dominican Republic between
May 13 and May 25, 2022.
The six participating clubs, all
of which have qualified via their
domestic professional leagues, are
(in alphabetical order by member
association): Atlético Vega Real
(DOM), Cibao FC (DOM), Arcahaie
FC (HAI), Violette Athletic
Club (HAI), Cavalier SC (JAM)
and Waterhouse FC (JAM).
CONCACAF said the competition
will commence with a group
stage (two groups of three teams
each).
After round-robin play from
May 13-17, the first and second
place finishers will advance to
the semifinals, CONCACAF said.
It said the semifinals will be
played on May 20, followed by
the final and third Place Match
on May 22.
The champion of the 2022
CCCC will qualify for the 2023
SCCL, while the second and third
place finishers will participate in
the 2022 SCL, CONCACAF said.
Additionally, provided the
2022 CCCS Champion fulfills
the CONCACAF Regional Club
Licensing criteria required
to participate in the SCL, an
additional play-in match will be
disputed on May 24, between
the fourth-place finisher of the
2022 CCCC and the 2022 CCCS
Champion, CONCACAF said.
It said the winner of this
match will claim the last spot
for Caribbean clubs in the 2022
SCL.
CONCACAF said the 2022
CCCS will take place in Puerto
Rico, between April 15 to 24,
2022.
The competition will feature
13 clubs from 13 Caribbean
member associations who
are working with CONCACAF
towards a long-term vision to
professionalize the club game
across the region.
The 13 participating clubs
are (in alphabetical order by
member association): Deportivo
Nacional (Aruba), SV Real Rincon
(Bonaire), Scholars International
SC (Cayman Islands),
CRKSV Jong Holland (Curaçao),
Southeast FC (Dominica), AS
Gosier (Guadeloupe), Golden
Lion (Martinique), Bayamon
FC (Puerto Rico), Platinum FC
(St. Lucia), Junior Stars FC (St.
Martin), Flames United SC (Sint
Maarten), Inter Moengo Tapoe
(Suriname) and SWA Sharks FC
(Turks and Caicos Islands).
CONCACAF said the tournament
will kick off with a Group
Stage (three groups of three and
one group of four).
After round-robin play from
April 15-19, CONCACAF said the
four group winners will advance
to the semifinals.
The semifinal matches will be
played on April 22, followed by
the final and 3rd Place Match
Sunday, April 24, CONCACAF
said.
