Morris Park Business Improvement District
2020Census Community Engagement Events by the Morris Park BID
In order to increase Morris Park and Van Nest community engagement in the 2020Census process, the MPBID hosted and
participated in multiple events. We hosted on September 8 and September 14, 2020 the BronxWorks 2020Census team at 966
Morris Park Ave. On September 16, 2020 the MPBID participated in the "Empowered Women for the Census" Caravan organized by
the office of the NYC Public Advocate, with participation of Morris Park and Van Nest elected representatives including NY State
Assembly Member Karines Reyes, NY State Assembly Member Nathalia Fernandez, NY State Senator Alessandra Biaggi, Bronx
Borough Deputy President Marricka Scott-McFadden, Councilwoman Vanessa Gibson, and many other leaders of Bronx community
organizations. On September 19, 2020 the MPBID co-hosted an "End of Summer Census Party" in Loreto Park, together with the US
Census team of BronxWorks and the office of NY State Senator Alessandra Biaggi.
The MPBID is also taking this opportunity to introduce Omesh Persaud as the MPBID Program Manager of "Avenue NYC", a new 3
year grant-funded project supported by the NYC Department of Small Business Services in Morris Park. In the first year of the grant,
the MPBID will conduct a comprehensive "Commercial District Needs Assessment" of the wider Morris Park neighborhood and
commercial corridors including White Plains Rd, Bronxdale Ave and Williamsbridge Rd.
Morris Park Avenue resiliency highlighted in The Wall Street Journal
The Morris Park corridor and the work of MPBID were highlighted in a The Wall Street Journal article on Sunday, September 20,
2020 , titled "New York City Outer Boroughs See Foot Traffic—by Locals". The piece written by Kate King presents foot traffic data
showing how smaller neighborhood corridors prove to be rebounding faster than Times Square and the Financial District, as people
spend money closer to home. Two Morris Park businesses, Conti's Pastry Shoppe and Morris Park Inn are featured in the article

We are humbled and grateful to all local community residents that support Morris Park businesses, and to all elected
representatives and NYC agencies helping our work to keep a clean, safe and prosperous commercial corridor, that serves the
community! Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter @MPBID
