Under the leadership of principal
Ray Vitiello and athletic director Ben
Piacquadio, Saint Benedict CYO Sports
Program was determined to fi nd a way
to get our Varsity (6th,7th,8th graders)
athletes back onto the court for basketball.
They especially wanted their 8th
graders to enjoy their fi nal months at
school since 8th grade is usually an
exciting year for them. Coaches, Vincent
Gamboli, Angel Rosario, Denise
Kilmer, and Ervido Creales volunteered
to take all necessary precautions
to help make this a reality.
They created an outdoor court
with a stencil and used outdoor hoops
to practice outside with masks on
and they entered themselves into the
Westchester CYO League, since restrictions
in the city did not allow indoor
basketball. They are the only
Bronx CYO team to be playing right
now.
