BRONX TIMES R 36 REPORTER, MAR. 4-10, 2022 BTR
BY TONY SALIMBENE
Let me start off with the date
this time. On Sunday, March 13,
the St. Patrick’s Day Parade is
back thanks to the Throggs Neck
Benevolent Association. Mass begins
at 9 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m.
breakfast at St. Benedict Church;
the pre-parade breakfast id courtesy
of Jim McQuade. Lineup begins
at 11 a.m. by Lafayette and
East Tremont avenues for a 12
p.m. start.
The Irish stuff is fun on this
special day but please dress appropriately
as prior military service
members representing the
American Legion. Ladies and
sons, too. Let’s look sharp and
proud to remember the contributions
of the Irish and Irish Americans
when our nation called.Next
regular post meeting is the third
Sunday in March as usual, at 11
a.m. at American Turners NY —
1030 a.m. for coffee, then 12 p.m.
for lunch with cash bar.Looks like
the national commander’s down
state visitation is back at Antun’s
of Queens, scheduled for April 8.
A bit expensive but it’s formal,
like a wedding or a nice dinner.
And, you will be turned away if
not properly dressed.We’re putting
our SAL color guard together
again. Until Next Time: “May you
be at the gates of heaven an hour
before the devil knows you’re
dead.” -old Irish saying
BY AL D’ANGELO
The politics of division in
America has not only hurt our
country but our allies. We put
sanctions on Russia, yet we
import about 20 million barrels
of oil a month from the
Soviet Union. We were energy
independent; we could have exported
oil to all the countries
that rely on Russian oil and
thereby strangling the Russian
economy. Can someone
please explain to me how cutting
our production and buying
from another country helps
the cause of climate change? Is
Russian oil not a fossil fuel?
I think it would have been
better if we used some of the
money our energy independence
saved us to fi nd alternative
means of energy. Our
stubbornness to do away with
anything Trump had instilled,
has not only cost American’s
money but now it is also costing
Ukrainian lives.
Why is it that according
to Republicans, Democrats
can’t do anything right and
according to Democrats, Republicans
can’t do anything
right? Does that mean every
time there is a change in
party leadership, we must
destroy everything done by
the previous administration?
Moderate Americans have allowed
the radical elements in
our country to set the agenda
by our lack of involvement.
Thank God the mothers of
America have had enough
and are fi nally speaking out
against the radical elements
that are hurting their children’s
education and safety.
They are challenging school
boards, organizing rallies
and, in some cases, running
for offi ce. Maybe it’s time for
the silent Americans to make
their voicers heard and let
elected offi cials know what
we want; if they can’t deliver,
we will fi nd ones who will.
On a happier note, Jacobi
Medical Center is teaming up
with The Morris Park Community
Association to put
on plays and social events
in their newly updated 600-
seat theater. We thank Jacobi
for their commitment to our
community.
