NOTICE OF INQUEST
Docket No. NN-05726-8/20
Part 17
BRONX TIMES REPORTER, DEC.BTR 31, 2021-JAN. 6, 2022 35
BY AL D’ANGELO
The Christmas season is a
celebration of the birth of Jesus
in the Christian Church.
At the time of his birth, cancel
culture was alive and well.
First King Herod attempted to
have the child put to death for
fear of the prophecy coming
true. Thirty-three years later
they were successful in putting
the young carpenter’s son
to death.Today, there are 2.3
billion Christians who follow
his teachings; cancel culture
failed. Cancel culture tried to
halt the teachings of Muhammad,
his followers were persecuted
and physically attacked.
Today, there are 1.4 billion
Muslims who follow his teachings;
cancel culture failed once
again. Cancel culture has attempted
to stamp out the Jewish
religion for centuries; the
latest attempt was the Holocaust
which put to death 6 million
Jews. Today, there are 15.2
million Jews in world; cancel
culture failed once more.Perhaps
we would be better served
by learning from the positive
infl uences of our past leaders
rather than fi nding something
negative in their past and attempt
to erase or cancel they’re
existence. Thomas Jefferson,
the third president of the
United States, for example was
one of the most intelligent and
infl uential men of his time —
the author of the Declaration
of Independence, facilitated
the Louisiana purchase which
doubled the size of America,
abolished the slave trade, and
founded the University of Virginia.
He was publicly a consistent
opponent of slavery
calling it a moral depravity.
He believed that slavery presented
the greatest threat to
the new American nation. But
because of his early years as
a slave owner, cancel culture
decided his statue needed to
be removed.The Shakespearean
quote says it best, “the evil
that men do lives after them;
the good is often interred with
their bones.” You don’t discard
history or change it because
you don’t like it, you
learn from it, so you make the
future better. If our ancestors
didn’t learn from the past, we
would still be living in caves.
Where is the backbone of our
elected offi cials? Why are they
so quick to cave into the cancel
culture crowd?

March 2020, NYC’s fi rst
case of Covid-19 was offi cially
documented. Describing the
aftermath, the societal effect,
as continuums of stress and
turbulent storm could be an
understatement. A lengthy
list of pertinent issues plague
many communities. Let
us hope that the New Year
brings our communities relief
from the ongoing stresses
and storms of the past two
years.
Boring: Perhaps, A Good
Thing
Boredoms at the civic and
community levels is often
signs of peace and calm. It
is refreshing when civic and
community meetings require
creative stimulations. The
old school traditions;: 50-50
chances, wine raffl es, neighborhood
banter, and the traditional
post meeting coffee and
cake brought spice to these
benign get-togethers.
Today, many civic groups
wish for agendas laden
with trivial items. In recent
months, I have attended numerous
meetings and interacted
with civic leaders. Our
dialogues brought the consensus,
Spencer Estate remains
among the desirable
communities. Mindsets of
mass exodus from non-stop
streams of nuisance behaviors,
petty and violent crimes,
although nearing, have yet to
reach our doorsteps. We must
remain a vigilant and unifi
ed community to ensure the
long-term well-being of our
neighborhood.
Wishes for a happy,
healthy and prosperous New
Year to all.
Monthly meetings resume
in March; however, the traditional
winter respite could be
interrupted by circumstances
requiring ad hoc attention.
If we want to keep and reap
the blessings of our fi ne quality
of life, we must endure
the fatigue of supporting it.
Our community has traditionally
exhibited a “We are
Family attitude”; Now is the
time to let it shine. Communicate,
make that phone call,
text message or email. Please
check on family, friends and
neighbors especially the elderly
and vulnerable. Please
submit all inquiries for the
