One reason the Freedomland
Amusement Park went
out of business was the lack of
access via public transportation
access.
The second was that it
was only able to be open May
through October. Why didn’t
elected offi cials and transportation
experts of that generation
after Freedomland
Amusement Park closed ever
consider extending the #6 subway
line beyond the Pelham
Bay Park Station terminal
to directly into Co-op City?
Imagine how many thousands
of Co-op City residents would
have benefi ted by a one trip
subway ride versus having a
two trip bus to subway commute?

Add increased
accountability
Dear editor,
Re: “Have felons
clean trains,” (Larry
Penner,12/20/2019, BTR letter)
Penner wants to know how diffi
cult it could be for a nonviolent
offender to push a broom,
a mop, or pick up trash. Has
Penner been on any of the
trains he mentions in his letter
lately? Is Penner aware of
the fact that they have become
a de facto homeless shelter?
What happens when a non violent
offender attempts to move
a mentally ill homeless person?
Also, how happy is the
TWU going to be with an unpaid
offender taking the job
of one of its dues paying members?
Penner suggests that businesses,
colleges and hospital
sponsor cleaning crews. Why
not instead institute increased
MTA/TA accountability and
oversight so that waste and ineffi
ciency are eliminated and
more cleaners can be hired?

Rules to
live by
Dear editor,
Winter brings extreme
weather and dangerous road
conditions for vehicles and pedestrians.
Some simple common
sense precautions just may
save lives, prevent injury, or
property damage.
• Adjust your speed based
on road conditions;
• Your car is not a time machine,
if you leave late, plan on
arriving late;
• Speeding on bad roads
will ensure you don’t arrive
at all;
• Turn headlights on at
dusk and when it’s snowing/
raining;
• Remove snow completely
from your vehicle before placing
into drive.
• Pedestrians don’t be complaisant.
• Don’t block your vision
with your hoodie or umbrella;
• Don’t depend on a crosswalk,
traffi c light or driver
seeing you and stopping. Vehicles
sliding on snow/ice will
be detrimental to you health;
• Wear light cloths at night
or us a small fl ashlight so
drivers can see you on dark
nights.
It’s up to you to ensure you
make sure you get home safe
at the end of the day.

Other opinions
rattle reader
Dear editor,
Just as it is sometimes diffi
cult to avoid gawking at a car
wreck on the highway, I sometimes
fi nd it diffi cult to ignore
the ultra-right musings of a
weekly columnist at the BTR,
who shall remain nameless in
order to avoid expanding his
infl uence.
In his latest offering this
individual has the temerity
to question the mental fi tness
of Joe Biden, while ignoring
the myriad uninformed and
counterproductive actions of
the current White House occupant,
actions that clearly
support the judgment of many,
laymen and specialists alike,
who have qualms about his
mental fi tness. In his unthinking
devotion to ideology
this columnist has once again
demonstrated his intellectual
dishonesty.

Poor transit

Dear editor,
“The defi nitive history of
Freedomland revealed in detail”
(Kyle Vulle --- December
20) would have been worth
the price of admission. The
Freedomland theme park
was a 60s Big Apple slice of
America. It was a great place
to learn about past history of
our nation. As a child, a remember
that admission to
the Freeedomland Amusement
Park required use of a
pure silver dollar. I managed
to save several silver dollars
not knowing what a great investment
they would make
decades later.
I still have many fond
childhood memories of visiting
Freedomland in the
Bronx along with mini
amusement parks such as
Adventurers Inn in Flushing,
Queens and Kiddy City
in Douglaston, Queens which
have also come and gone de-
