On Sunday, Nov. 8, the scheduled
Veterans Day ceremony in
lieu of our annual parade was held
in Bicentennial Veterans Memorial
Park. It was a day to remember.
Due to COVID restrictions,
we were not able to have a Veterans
Day parade but did not want to
forget the brave men and women
who defended our country.
We needed to honor our veterans,
so our walk with color guard
and members of the parade committee
and a car for our Grand
Marshal, preserved the 36th annual
event, which made its way
down E. Tremont Ave to our park
where the ceremony was held.
With protocols in place, the ceremony
was a tribute to our Grand
Marshal, Vietnam Veteran Patrick
Mooney, U.S. Army; honorary
Grand Marshals, Norman Moore,
U.S. Army, Michael Sullivan, U.S.
Army and Jack Reith, U.S. Navy.
Our WWII veterans, Frank Liquorie,
U.S. Navy and Eugene Connelly,
U.S. Marine Corps, who
were both presented with WWII
Victory Medals. A tribute was
paid to every veteran who served
this country.
Everyone in attendance was
left with a deep pride for our borough
and the Throggs Neck Community.
A fl ag folding ceremony to
honor all veterans we lost during
this pandemic who could not get
their proper ceremonial fl ag presented
were remembered this day.
We also recognized an outstanding
citizen William Skelly, for his
work on the beautifi cation of the
park.
Taps were played and a touching
rendition of “God Bless America”
from our Junior Auxiliary
member signing. As she sang, it
brought a tear to many eyes.
We will never forget.
