On Wednesday, Oct. 13, dozens of community members took to the streets at
the corner of East 213th Street and Bronxwood Avenue for a Stop the Violence
Rally. With gun violence in the Bronx reaching alarming levels, local community
leaders protested what has been occurring in their streets.

Chamber hosts annual fundraising
gala at Marina Del Rey
Our Bronx is resilient. And we
are back in business. On Sept. 30, the
Bronx Chamber of Commerce hosted
its annual Fundraising Gala at Marina
Del Rey. Honorees present were
Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz
Jr., Lucy McMillan, Pro Bono Counsel
at Arnold and Porter; Bill Tipacti, director
of Community Empowerment
at Univision; Marcos Crespo, Senior
vice president of Community Affairs
at Montefi ore Health Systems; Phillip
Grant, general manager at Hunts
Point Produce Market and the Cardinal
Hayes High School Track team.
The late Aurelia Green was also given
an award, in which her children accepted
on her behalf.

Essen Health Care, the largest NYC health care provider, celebrated a grand
opening in the Bronx on Oct. 14. The outfi ts newest location is 828 E. 149th St.
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, NYC Councilwoman Vanessa Gibson
awarded some local Bronx leaders.Hispanic Heritage Community honorees
were: Dr. Anderson Torres, president and C.E.O. of R.A.I.N.; Teresa Adorn, associate
vice president of Training and Development at Essen Health Care; and
Gloria Alfi nez, RTG).Dr. Sumir Sahgal, Essen Health Care’s founder and chief
medical offi cer, was also given a City Council Citation honoring Essen.
