Park Columbus Day parade
On Sept. 23, Inner-City Scholarship Fund held its 50th anniversary celebration
at Wave Hill in the Bronx. Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New
York was in attendance. Liana Perdomo, a nine-year-old student at Our Lady Of
Lourdes said the invocation. Elena Villa, winner of the 50th Anniversary Poetry
Contest, received her certifi cate and recited her poem.

St. Helena Parish sponsored a
Street Fair on Castle Hill Avenue on
Saturday, Oct. 2. Almost 100 vendors
lined the block between Starling and
Westchester avenues. There were
bouncy houses for the kids, music,
food, clothes, ethnic goods and lots of
other items.
The Feast of St. Francis was held on Monday, Oct. 4, signifying the day animals
are blessed in church. The students of St. Helena’s School in the Bronx had
their stuffed animals blessed during mass.
Loretta Zaino MacKnight, Italian teacher and site director, will be the grand marshall representing
educators in the Morris Park Columbus Day Parade on Sunday, Oct. 10.

St. Helena’s holds popular street fair
The blessing of stuffed animals at St. Helen’s
JASA, the go-to NYC agency serving
older New Yorkers, and Type
A Real Estate Advisors, a Women-
Owned Business Enterprise (WBE)
developer, will be joined by HPD and
local elected offi cials to celebrate the
completion of a new senior housing development
at 1490 Southern Boulevard
in the Bronx.
The 100% affordable development
will become the fi rst of Democratic
Mayor Bill de Blasio’s initiative aiming
to expand MWBE’s in real estate to
complete construction and lease-up its
units.
The 114 new, affordable apartments,
30% of which will be set aside for formerly
homeless older adults, will include
support services and onsite staff.
