Bronx baby brings in New Year
Montefi ore’s fi rst baby of the year was born to Bronxites, in the Bronx. Baby
girl Chimbusuto “Suto” Nwanko was born Jan. 1 at 5:50 a.m., weighing 7 Ibs 8 oz
and measuring 18 inches tall.
Swinton Avenue’s Winter Wonderland
continued for another year on
Dec. 24. Millie and Albert Stone have
once again embodied the holiday spirit
by giving back to the community.
Not only was the Swinton Avenue
home decorated with top notch Christmas
lights but young adults were able
to choose a brand new gift for themselves.
There were also gifts for adults
and festive treats to munch on while
taking in the amazing lighting and design
done by Albert Stone

Black veterans recognition
awards celebration luncheon
The second annual Black Veterans
Recognition Awards Celebration Luncheon
was held at Eastwood Manor on
Dec. 21.
This event was brought together by
former NYC Councilman Andy King,
Recognize TV and Kevin Meggett
in honor of black veterans. The National
Association for Black Veterans
(NABVETS) were honored with
the Andy Don King Community Service
Award. NABVETS present were
Mr. Jerry White Sr., Atiba Dey, Cortez
Moore and David Minton. Other
awardees were Gene Anthony Edwards
Jr., The Job Mashariki Leadership
Award, Toba La Crown, Bishop
Angelo Rosario;,Kevin Meggett, Harold
Payne, Alonzo L. Decastro, Larry
Tumbler Davis, The Albert “Hollywood”
Meggett Athletic & Service
Award, Asha Castlebrry-Hernandez,
General Colin Powell Joint Chiefs of
Staff Award and Stephanie Stokes-
Cokle, Wendy McClinton Award of Excellence.
This ceremony also honored
and remembered deceased veterans
of color Albert “Hollywood” Meggett,
Colin Powell and Maurice English.
Friends of Pelham Parkway held its
annual Holiday Event Dec. 17. There
was a tree lighting, gave away candy
canes, lollipops, vegan eggnog and
cookies. Starbucks generously gave
away hot cocoa for the kids. There
were more than over 68 kids and 30
parents in attendance. Santa took
photos with the community and read
“How Pete the Cat saves Christmas.”
