COURIER LIFE, AUG. 28-SEPT. 3, 2020 25
Saint Saviour HS:
Confidence.
Leadership.
Friendship.
Park Slope, Brooklyn
As you enter 588 Sixth Street, Park
Slope, Brooklyn, our Assistant Principal
greets you. On your way to your locker,
students stop by to greet our Principal
before organizing for morning classes.
Friends can be seen decorating lockers to
celebrate birthdays. Before homeroom,
some students will be working in our
Greenhouse Classroom on Science
research. Down in the Art Room, students
are busy working on projects that are class
– and club – related. On the third floor, the
Gospel Choir or Instrumental Ensemble
can be heard practicing for a liturgy or
concert. In guidance, seniors are sharing
college acceptances and scholarship
awards. All this activity and the day hasn’t
even officially begun!
And what a day it will be: with English
classes where you explore the nuances of
poetry; Math and Science classes that teach
you about the universe as manifested in
the laws of Physics; History classes that
will open a door to the past as a way to
understanding the present; Religion
classes discovering Faith in the Media or
with Foreign Language classes where you
discover your love of language.
In between, there will, of course, be
breaks: for P.E., where you can blow off
steam in an intense game of Volleyball; for
study halls, where you can return to the
greenhouse room or library to complete
an article for the newspaper.
2:36 pm: “Have a good afternoon, you
are now dismissed . . .”, but the day is
not done, as a myriad of extracurricular
activities awaits: play practice, community
service projects, extra help sessions, team
practices, play-off games.
As the 19-20 school year moved to
remote learning due to the COVID-19
pandemic, St. Saviour HS faculty and
students proceeded with their commitment
to an excellent education.
Here are some quotes from students and
parents in response to online learning in
Spring 2020:
• “St Saviour did a wonderful job with
remote learning.”
• “...teachers kept the students engaged
in class discussions.”
• “I liked that the girls stuck to their
schedule.”
• “I enjoyed the interaction between the
students and teachers.”
But don’t take my word for it: find out
for yourself!
