This Sept. 11 marks two
decades since terrorist attacks
changed our city forever.
While there are many
services going on throughout
our borough to honor
the 20th anniversary, they
might look a bit different
than in previous years as
the Delta variant has again
threatened the full reopening
of New York City. Many
commemorations are still
happening in person, some
include a virtual option,
and a few known from previous
years are closed to the
public this year but here is
our list of memorials happening
around Brooklyn for
Sept. 11.
Bay Ridge
American Veterans Memorial
Pier (69th Street and Shore
Road) on Sept. 11 at 7 pm.
State Sen. Andrew Gounardes

and Councilmember
Justin Brannan will host a
candlelight vigil at the Bay
Ridge pier to honor the fi rst responder
and those lost in September
2001. The event will be
live-streamed on the elected
offi cials’ Facebook pages.
Brooklyn Heights
The Oratory Parish of Assumption
(55 Cranberry St.) on
Sept.11 at 11 am.
The Brooklyn Heights
church will host a solemn
Mass honoring the fi refi ghters
of local FDNY Engine 205/
Ladder 118 who were lost responding
to the Sept. 11, 2001
terrorist attacks.
Canarsie
Canarsie Park (Seaview Avenue
and E. 84th Steet) on Sept.
11 at 2 pm
Canarsie’s elected offi cials
are hosting a Sept. 11 remembrance
with Covid-19 guidelines
in place.
Coney Island
The Brooklyn Wall of Remembrance
at Maimonides
Park (1904 Surf Ave.) on Sept.
10 at 5:30 pm and 7 pm.
Special music will be
played to honor and celebrate
the lives of the fi rst responders
to the Sept. 11 terrorist
attacks starting at 5:30 pm,
followed by a candlelight ceremony
at 7 pm. Candles will be
provided.
Dyker Heights
St. Ephrem Parish (929 Bay
Ridge Parkway) on Sept. 11 at
5 pm.
A special memorial Mass
will start outside the Dyker
Heights church with the
prayers, songs and blessings
of the memorial stones. The
services will be led inside for
the full Mass.
Mckinley Park (Bay Ridge
Parkway and Fort Hamilton
Parkway) on Sept. 10 at 7 pm
E&J Boutique is hosting a
candlelight vigil at the park
in Dyker Heights on the eve of
Sept. 11. The event is also sponsored
by the Dyker Heights
Civic Association.
Fort Hamilton
US Army Garrison Fort
Hamilton (114 White Ave.) on
Sept. 10 at 11 am. Masks required.
Fort Hamilton will host a
brief ceremony followed by a
wreath-laying to commemorate
the lives lost on Sept. 11,
2001. The event will include
a roll call of fallen military
members and veterans who
were fi rst responders, including
the guest of honor FDNY
Firefi ghter Joseph Esposito
of Rescue 5 in Staten Island.
The event will also be livestreamed
on Fort Hamilton’s
Facebook page.
Gerritsen Beach
In Marine Park at Gerritsen
Avenue and Cyrus Avenue on
Sept. 10 at 6:30 pm
Gerritsen Beach, a neighborhood
where many fi rst responders
reside, hosts an annual
commemoration of the
2001 terrorist attack at their
local memorial at Gerritsen
Avenue.
Marine Park
Carmine Carro Community
Center (3000 Fillmore Avenue)
on Sept. 11 at 5 pm.
A cadre of pols, including
State Sen. Andrew Gounardes,
Assemblymembers
Jaime Williams and Helene
Weinstein, and Councilmember
Alan Maisel, are hosting
an outdoor vigil at the Marine
Park community center
near the flagpole to pay
tribute to those lost in the attacks
