Dig in to a seafood
By Camille Sperrazza
It’s great to have a new
seafood restaurant in
Sheepshead Bay!
Red Crab – which opened
its original location in Florida
about five years ago – is
a welcome addition to the
borough.
Enter the spacious eatery,
and become immersed in the
nautical experience. The room
plates, and wood planks.
There’s a balcony above, and
although it does not contain
tables, the railing contributes
to the feeling of being inside
a ship. Televisions surround
the walls – I counted at least
seven in the large dining
area where booths and
tables can accommodate
about 150 diners.
Start with an assortment of
appetizers like hush puppies,
cheese sticks, oysters, and
calamari. The latter was
battered and fried, with an
abundant of rings that were
very tender.
Chicken wings are offered
with a variety of sauces –
including a tasty barbecue
and a light lemon-pepper
seasoning.
Patrons get to choose
the main attraction – an

extravaganza
assortment of seafood that’s
served with corn on the
cob and chucks of potato,
similar to a clam bake. It
works like this: Select at
least two treasures from
the sea, options that include
blue crab, shrimp, snow crab
mussels, black mussels, king
crab legs, lobster tail, and
scallop. Sausage may be
added, too.
Next, select your favorite
sauce: Cajun, lemon pepper,
garlic butter, or the “juicy
special,” the restaurant’s own
secret blend. If you can’t pick
one, you can opt to mix them
all. Finally, decide whether you
like your food spice-free, mild,
medium, hot, or extra hot.
The chefs create their magic
behind the scenes, and the
server delivers the delicious
results to your table, still
simmering inside a plastic
bag. This keeps the seafood
moist, and the meal remains
hot. Smell the aromas and
feast with your eyes as the
contents are transferred to a
serving bowl. Plastic gloves
are provided so you can
literally dig in, peeling shells
and breaking into those crab
legs with the gusto a dish like
this deserves. Keep your plate
clean by depositing the shells
inside a silver-colored bucket.
It’s all tasty, tantalizing, and
fun - a meal that’s literally
finger-licking good. Come
back again to try all the
different seasonings, mixing
and matching the seafood, for
a variety of flavors. Each visit
can be a new experience.
For those who prefer less
adventurous eating, the menu
offers baskets of fried shrimp,
chicken. New England clam
chowder and salads such as
avocado, chicken, and shrimp
are other options.
There are daily specials, too.
For dessert, it’s cheesecake
or a generous-sized molten
cake, oozing with melted
chocolate, surrounded by
whipped cream rosettes.
Red Crab Restaurants
are family-owned and
operated, dedicated to
giving customers impeccable
service and great-tasting
seafood. The atmosphere is
friendly and casual.
