What you should know/What you should do
As we all know by now, Corona Virus is a highly contagious disease. We, at
Brighton Eye take the health of our staff and patients very seriously. Symptoms
of the condition: Patients usually present with a respiratory (breathing) condition
including fever, cough and shortness of breath. However, conjunctivitis also
known as pink eye can also be present, although it is rare. Severe complications
like pneumonia can emerge. Patients usually present with symptoms 2-14 days
after being exposed. That is why a quarantine period of two weeks has been
recommended to make sure that if exposed you are no longer contagious. The
virus is passes from one person to another through sneezing, or coughing. It is
also transmitted if a person touches a surface touched by an infected person
and then touches his eyes, nose or mouth. We ask all patients with fever or
respiratory symptoms to stay home. We ask all patients who have recently
traveled internationally to stay home. Precautions we are taking at Brighton
Eye and Precautions we are recommending to our patients: – We recommend
rescheduling any patients who are in the high risk group We thoroughly clean and
disinfect our examine rooms and waiting rooms before and after every patient.
The virus is susceptible to the same disinfection practices that we already use
daily. We are limiting the number of patients we are seeing on a daily basis We
discourage hand-shaking of very close contact except where it pertains to our
examination. Use an elbow or a sleeve to cover a cough or a sneeze; wash with
soap and water often, for at least 20 seconds. Frequent hand washing is the key
to limiting spread of disease.
