A scoffl aw driver critically injured
a pedestrian in Bay Ridge
on Feb. 15 before fl eeing the
scene just after 8 pm, according
to the NYPD.
The 72-year-old victim was
crossing Bay Ridge Parkway at
the intersection of Sixth Avenue
when the car — believed to be a
light-colored Mercedes Benz —
made a left turn onto Bay Ridge
Parkway at a green traffi c light
and smashed into the elderly
man, according to the NYPD
Highway’s District Collision Investigation
Squad.
Police arrived at the scene to
fi nd the victim lying on the road,
and paramedics rushed him to
NYU Langone-Brooklyn, where
he currently remains in critical
condition with head trauma.
Bay Ridge’s community board
head said that intersection —
where no one has died in a traffi crelated
incident since the city began
keeping track in 2009 — is not
known as particularly hazardous,
but said the crash seems like
a textbook left-hand turn issue
that should be further addressed.
“The only complaints we
have had in the past was truck
traffi c,” said Community Board
10 District Manager Josephine
Beckmann. “That is very common
when you hear these terrible
left turn accidents, it’s just
like a typical one. I’m so sorry to
hear it.”
Police have not yet made any arrests
for the hit-and-run, and the investigation
continues, cops said.
