SACHEM PUBLIC LIBRARY
A great public library is a place for education, engagement, and inspiration.
Sachem Public Library fulfills all of that and more. The library – which has won
“Best Public Library” on Long Island six years in a row – began as an 18-book
collection founded by members of the women’s suffrage movement in 1914
and has transformed into a space that holds 3D and poster printers, a laser
engraver and other emerging technologies at “The STUDIO” and two unique
outdoor spaces: “Inside/Out,” a registered public garden and “Discovery
Grove,” an outdoor nature classroom for children. Sachem’s YouTube channel
has amassed more than 19,326 views since launching in May 2019, providing
story times, educational lectures, exercise classes and musical performances
for all ages. In the midst of COVID-19, the library staff has continued to serve
its community by offering curbside pickup – 6,204 pickups and counting since
reopening in June – and providing more than a thousand hours of virtual
community service credit to teen students through projects like “Teen Book
Reviewers” and “Send a Smile.” www.sachemlibrary.org
