Catholic Academy of Astoria

Learning…SFACA believes that it
is our responsibility to provide
innovative, research-based solutions
to help children learn. In order to
accomplish this, we are shifting our
focus towards the New Your State
Next Generation Learning
Standards, the Five Core Clusters of
Social Emotional Competencies,
and the Arts. At the beginning of
each day, we ask ourselves, what do
our students need to know, how do
our students need to think, and what
skills are required for our students to
become both personally and
professional successful in the future.
Leading…We at SFACA strive to
lead a way of life rooted in Christ
through a Catholic vision that
provides inspiration and identity to
all members of our community,
SFACA believes in the dignity of all
human beings and supports a
Christian-laden environment that
builds respectful relationships
throughout our school. Catholic
teachings, principles, values, and
social justice themes are fully
integrated into our curriculum and
instructional activities to empower
our students to be leaders of
tomorrow.
Serving…SFACA has a desire to
serve others. As socially conscious
individuals our students recognize
the need for change. Through
school-wide service projects, they
are making the world a better place.
Our school community has
partnered with Heifer International,
Water.org, and City Harvest to make
a difference in local and worldwide
communities.
Succeeding…The graduates of
SFACA receive the rich Gospel
values, extensive knowledge, and
essential skills that can enable them
to become productive and
influential citizens in our worldwide
community. In Affair of the Heart
by Patricia Jordan, we learned that
“one winter morning in 1208, St.
Francis of Assisi heard the words of
the Gospel not only with his ears,
but with his heart, and it changed his
life forever.” It is our hope that for
our students, an SFACA education
will make their lives and the lives of
those they touch better in every
community.
