Conviction in Detroit Trans Woman, Two Gay Men’s Slay
Teen killer sprayed at least 20 bullets into May 2019 party he’d earlier left

A Detroit man who fatally shot a transgender
woman and a pair of gay men
at a party in that city last year has
been found guilty of murder and
other charges, according to the Detroit News.
A jury in the Wayne County Circut Court on
March 17 found Devon Kareem Robinson, 19,
guilty of fi rst-degree premeditated murder, assault
with intent to murder, and felony possession
of a fi rearm in connection with the deaths
of 20-year-old Paris Cameron, a transgender
woman, and 21-year-old Alunte Davis and
20-year-old Timothy Blancher, both gay men.
According to the Detroit News, police and the
prosecutors believed that Robinson targeted
the trio due to their sexual orientation. There is
no mention of whether Robinson targeted Cameron
due to her gender identity, though it is, of
course, possible that sexual orientation in this
instance was used to refer to both sexual orientation

Trans Women Say They Were Raped at Brooklyn Jail
Lawsuit says federal detention offi cials ignored their requests to be housed with women

Two transgender women said they
were raped while in custody at
Brooklyn’s federal Metropolitan Detention
Center after offi cials refused
to place them with female inmates, according
to separate federal lawsuits fi led in US District
Court in the Eastern District of New York and
obtained by Gay City News.
Tiana Miller and Lorindo Powell, who both
went on to be convicted of charges stemming
from their actions in scamming senior citizens,
were locked up at the jail after their arrests in
May of 2017. In their respective suits, Powell and
Miller each stated that when they entered the
detention facility they were forced to be housed
alongside men against their wishes.
Miller, who hails from Jamaica, said she
spent two months in 2017 enduring beatings
and rapes by two male inmates, according to
