Cops probe
deadly crash
in Maspeth

Police are continuing to investigate
the death of a man
whose vehicle slammed into a
parked tractor trailer on the Long
Island Expressway service road in
Maspeth on Tuesday aft ernoon.
At 1:38 p.m. on Aug. 8, officers from
the 104th Precinct responded to a 911
call of a motor vehicle collision at the
westbound Queens Midtown Tunnel
Expressway near Mazeau Street. Upon
their arrival, police found 27-year-old
man Kevin Hurtes of Westbury, NY, in
a white 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee with
trauma to the head and body.
EMS responded to scene and declared
Hurtes dead at the location.
A preliminary investigation found
that the victim was driving westbound
on the Queens Midtown Tunnel Expressway
in the Jeep when the vehicle
hit the back of the tractor-trailer. An
individual inside of the tractor-trailer
at the time of the crash was not injured.
The investigation is ongoing.
