A native of Brooklyn, he was the beloved friend of Eleanor and dear grandfather of Donna Mohr. Mariano was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served as chief warrant officer in the U.S. Navy, where he retired in 1972. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from St. Francis College in 1989 and was employed with the Brooklyn Union Gas Co. before retiring in 1992.
