Last Wednesday, Apr. 9, the teams met for the first time this season. Adam Alava reached base in the top of the first and came around to score on James Szala’s double to right center. Haller went quiet for the next three innings and the score remained 1-0 after four innings. This became a very good pitching match up. Ryan Regan pitched a superb game for Haller. He was perfect through four innings, while striking out eight. Overall Regan pitched five solid innings allowing only one run on two hits and striking out 11. In the field, Haller was also excellent as the team made every play in the field. In the first inning, Joe Pennolino caught a hard shot to center, Szala played well at short and Aidin Dzaferovic had an assist playing second. In the top of the fifth, Haller scored three runs and added one more in the sixth. The lone run for Cutrone’s was scored in the bottom of the fifth. With a 5-1 lead heading into the sixth, Haller handed the ball to Joseph LaBarbara to close out the game. LaBarbara earned his second save in as many games by striking out the side to end the game and preserve the victory. In the second game, the battery of James Szala and Adam Alava were installed The pitching trio of Szala, LaBarbara and Pennolino limited Cutrone’s to four runs over four innings. Twice, catcher Alava stopped Cutrone rallies by throwing out two base runners at third, one in the first inning and one in the third. On offense, Haller plated eight runs in three at bats, 11 of 12 batters reached base and eight different players came across to score. In addition to Pennolino and Alava––Jack Cayli, Nicholas Macio, Ryan Regan, Benjamin Muratovic, Dean Butkiewicz, and Stephen Abuso crossed the plate for Haller and Haller. Regan also added a double to left field in the third inning. With two out and two on in the final inning, Stephen Abuso made a fine play on a high pop in foul territory near the fence to end the game, sending Haller home with the win.
