Lenten Fish Fry In Glendale Get A ‘Taste Of Queens’ In Flushing Sample Fare From Borough’s Fine Restaurants The Queens Economic Development Corporation (QEDC), the Queens Tourism Council (QTC) and lead sponsor Fairway Market are proud to announce that the borough’s premiere food-and-networking event, Queens Taste 2014, will take place at the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel, 135-20 39th Ave. in Flushing, from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 29. The reasons to attend are as diverse as the borough. Foodies can expect everything from sweet to savory; Mexican to mainstream; and crunchy to creamy. For example, La Fusta in Elmhurst is planning to bring Argentine cuisine, while Jamaica’s O Lavrador will delight with Portuguese paella. Plus, clients of the Entrepreneur Space, a food-and-business incubator that QEDC operates in Long Island City, will be on hand with their artisan specialties, including gourmet cheesecake balls, soul snacks and designer meatballs. Then there are the drinks. LIC’s SquareWine headlines a spirits group that includes Queens Brewery, Punzoné Vodka and Brooklyn Brewery. (Yes, some of the drink purveyors are based outside of Queens, but they all have a big presence in the borough.) Twirler On U.S. Team News From The 112th Precinct COMMUNITY COUNCIL Turn In Unused Rx Drugs The federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) will be at the 112th Precinct, located at 68-40 Austin St. People can turn in these drugs anonymously. The event, sponsored by the DEA, aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of -SEE TASTE ON PG. 61- by Heidi Harrison Chain Saturday, Apr. 26 is the National Prescription Drug Take- Back Day, and everyone is encouraged to come to the 112th Precinct’s Forest Hills stationhouse between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to turn in their expired prescriptions or unused prescriptions. The Msgr. Sherman Knights of Columbus chapter held a fish fry at St. Pancras Pfeiffer Hall on Friday, Apr. 11 to raise funds. Fish, French fries and cold drinks were served and there was also a ticket lottery. (photo: Marcin Zurawicz) Trina Catterson of Glendale was one of 14 young baton twirlers across the nation who competed in the U.S. trials for a spot on the world team. Reportedly, she qualified for the team with two no-drop performances and will represent the U.S. durign the World Baton Twirling Championships in Nottingham, England this August. She is an honor roll eighth-grader at P.S./I.S. 113 in Glendale and will attend Forest Hills High School this September. Coached by Alaine Robbins, this is the second time Catterson made the national baton twirling team. In 2012, she and pairs partner Toni Ann Cox of Deer Park competed in the World Championships in Paris, earning bronze medals in junior pairs. Fidelis Care Holds Healthy Resource Fair In Ridgewood The Ridgewood offices of Fidelis Care held a community resource fair for residents from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Putnam Avenue Saturday, Apr 12, with refreshments, music and face painting for kids.
