Bandit beats gas

Cops nabbed a Brooklyn man
on Sunday morning moments
aft er he allegedly roughed up
and robbed a gas station attendant
in Maspeth.
Law enforcement sources said
that Jonathan Aviles, 23, of Arlington
Avenue allegedly confronted a
male worker at the Gas Trac station
located at 60-93 Flushing Ave. at
3:37 a.m. on Jan. 28 and threw him
to the ground.
Police said that Aviles allegedly
rained blows upon the worker
before stealing just $78 in cash out
of his pockets and fl eeing the scene.
The injured attendant wound up being
taken to Wyckoff Heights Medical
Center for treatment of injuries
that were not life-threatening.
Aviles, however, couldn’t elude
the 104th Precinct for long; offi cers
took him into custody moments
later on 58th Drive between 59th
Street and Flushing Avenue, about
two blocks from the crime scene.
During a search, authorities
said, police recovered a gravity
knife allegedly in his possession.
Aviles was charged with second
degree robbery and criminal
possession of a weapon.
The Gas Trac station was robbed
last October in an unrelated caper.
During that incident, two masked
men robbed a station attendant at
gunpoint, stealing $1,100 in cash.
