Traffi c fi ght leads to fatal shooting in Park Slope
BY AIDAN GRAHAM
A gunman fatally shot a victim
in broad daylight during a
fi t of road rage in Park Slope
on March 13, before fl eeing the
scene and sending police on a
manhunt through the area.
Offi cers responded to the
scene near Sixth Avenue and
Garfi eld Place at around 4:45
pm, where they found the bloodied
31-year-old victim with a
gunshot wound to the head
in the driver’s seat of a white
Chevy sedan — which was littered
with multiple bullet holes
across the windshield.
First responders rushed the
wounded man to nearby Methodist
hospital, where he later
died, according to authorities.
Police believe that the
shooter and the victim began
arguing over a traffi c-related
incident, when the suspect got
out of his car and fi red off four
rounds into the victim’s windshield
— before hopping back
into his a white vehicle and
driving off.
One witness, referencing
the nearby PS 321 elementary
school, which was littered with
school children, expressed
shock at the unusual nature of
gun violence in Park Slope.
“I heard the shots, and it
sounded like it was fi recrackers
or something,” said Allen
Feldman. “You just don’t want
to let yourself think that that
could be what it is.”
According to the non-profi t
gun violence organization The
Trace, there had not been a single
fatal shooting in the neighborhood
since they began recording
in 2014.
keeping parents
connected amid
coronavirus
BY MEG CAPONE
As the novel coronavirus
continues to spread and
schools across the city close,
at least one “Brooklyn Mom”
is working to take some of the
added pressure off of parents.
Stay-at-home mother Angie
Wong is using the Facebook
group she founded in 2015 to encourage
camaraderie amongst
parents, while helping to educate
children and keep them
connected.
Wong founded the “Brooklyn
Moms” page after realizing
the borough didn’t have
its own online group for mothers.
Now that the page has over
11,000 followers, Wong says the
group has become a source of
sanity for moms in any stage of
parenthood — and especially
during this time of upheaval.
Amid the coronavirus outbreak,
Wong has started inviting
group members to use
online education sources such
as “Little Fox,” and has even
started using Facebook Live
to host some “classes.” During
the livestreams, Wong invites
teachers and tutors to do readalong
exercises or showcase
do-it-yourself projects.

Brooklyn woman becomes city’s fi rst coronavirus death MORE COVERAGE INSIDE
BY ROBERT POZARYCKI
An elderly woman has died
from coronavirus in Brooklyn,
becoming the fi rst fatality from
the novel infection in New York
City.
“The patient, an elderly
woman with advanced emphysema,
was admitted to the hospital
last week as one of our
fi rst cases, and had been in critical
condition ever since,” said
Mayor Bill de Blasio in a statement.
“We’ve known from the
outset that these people are the
most at risk in this pandemic,
and today’s news is a sad confi
rmation of that reality.”
The 82-year-old woman,
who died late on March 13 at
Wyckoff Medical Center in
Bushwick, had been suffering
emphysema — a lung disease
typically associated with smoking.
Governor Andrew Cuomo
said that he expects the umber
of infected patients to climb
considerably as auto-testing
kicks into high gear in the
weeks ahead — making detection
more widely available.
“We believe there are thousands
of people who have
coronavirus, maybe tens of
thousands who have it,” the
governor observed. “Maybe,
there were tens of thousands
who had it and never realized
it, and resolved from it.”
