Queens Library at LeFrak City has
it all.
Located at 98-30 57th Avenue, in
section #4 of the community, the library
offers a great assortment of activities
for residents of all ages at no
cost. Here are some upcoming events
to look forward to:
Energy & Water Saving Seminar:
The NYC Retrofit Accelerator Program
will showcase services to help
you save on energy and water bills on
Oct. 18 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The
event will feature speakers from National
Grid, ConEdison and the Department
of Environmental Protection
who will give advice to help reduce
costs and enhance tenant comfort.
Halloween Movie Matinee: Enjoy
a pair of holiday film classics
to get into the spooky spirit. On
Oct. 24 watch “Halloween” and
catch the sequel “Halloween 2” on
Oct. 31. Both movies are rated R
and will begin at 1 p.m. For families
and those who don’t like scary
movies, “Moana” will air on Oct. 27
at 1 p.m.
Tech Help: Technology can be
confusing and overwhelming at
times, but don’t stress! Drop by
the library from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
on Oct. 25 with your devices and
questions, and an expert will provide
one-on-one help.
Book Discussion Group: Keeping
with the spooky theme, the
group will discuss Shirley Jackson’s
“The Haunting of Hill House,”
a tale of a group of investigators
searching for signs of the supernatural
in an old mansion, on Oct. 25
from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Fun for Teens: The library
has plenty of activities for teens,
including Jenga every Wednesday
at 4 p.m. and karaoke every
Friday at 4 p.m. The teen book
swap will also take place on Oct.
30, where students in 7th grade
and up can come discuss their favorite

books and swap them with
each other.
Pre-School Story Time: Give
youngsters a head start on their education
by bringing them to story
time on Oct. 17 at 4 p.m.
Birthday Celebration: Everyone
who celebrated a birthday in the month
of October is invited to this end-of-themonth
party on Oct. 26 at 4 p.m.
Rent Freeze: Learn if you are eligible
and register for the NYC Rent
Freeze program, an initiative to help
people stay in affordable housing,
on the third Tuesday of every month
from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
After School Program: STACKS,
a free after school program for children
ages 6 to 14, takes place Monday
through Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
during the school year. Contact the

More activities are just down the road
Queens Theatre:
Lightwire Theater will present their
unique take on “The Ugly Duckling”
on Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The
company uses puppets, dance, music
and costumes lined with lights in
their shows. This play is recommended
for children ages 5 to 10. Tickets
are $14 for general admission, $12 for
seniors and members, and $10 for a
family flex pass.
Titan Theatre Company will perform
the Shakespeare classic “The
Tempest” as part of its 10th anniversary
season. The show will be at 7:30
p.m. on Oct. 26 and 27, Nov. 2, 3, 9
and 10, and at 4 p.m. on Oct. 28 and
Nov. 4 and 11. Tickets are $20.
L.A. Theatre Works will perform
“Steel Magnolias” on Oct. 27 and 28.
The radio-play tells the story of six
women who grow closer through
good and bad seasons in their lives.
Performances are on Saturday at 2
p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.
with an audience talkback after each.
There will be ASL interpretation at
the 8 p.m. show and audio description
at 3 p.m. Tickets are $42 for general
admission, $40 for seniors, $35
for members, $25 for rear seating and
$20 for front sides and student rush.
The Queens Theatre’s Fall Reading
Series will include three new plays.
“Twice, Thrice, Frice” on Oct. 20 at
8 p.m. tells the tale of three Muslim
women whose faith and friendship
are challenged by a tragedy. “On the
Roof ” highlights the struggles of a
gay bar in mid 1950s NYC on Nov.
10 at 8 p.m. “Frida Libre,” a musical
about the life and work of Latin-
American artist Frida Kahlo, will run
Nov. 8 through 18 at varying times in
English and Spanish. Tickets are $42
for general admission, $40 for seniors,
$35 for members, $25 for rear
seating and $20 for front sides and
student rush.
The Dan Zanes Trio will be hosting
a holiday sing along on Nov. 25
at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The interactive
show will include music from countries
around the world and is recommended
for ages 3 and up. The 3
p.m. show will be a sensory-relaxed
performance with ASL interpretation
available. Tickets are $14 for general
admission, $12 for members and seniors,
and $10 for a family flex pass.
New York Hall of Science:
Museum Makers will be holding
workshops on “Designing with Data”
every Thursday through Nov. 8 from
3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Children ages
5 to 8 and their families will tour the
museum while collecting scientific
data before creating their own exhibit.
Light dinner will be provided
afterwards. This event is free, but kids
must be pre-registered and attend all
seven workshops.
Children will learn about lights
and circuits in “Make It: Lightsabers.”
This event is from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
and 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. every Saturday
and Sunday in October. Nonmembers
pay $5, while members pay
$3 for each child and adult pair, plus
admission costs. This event is recommended
for ages 6 and up.
“Little Makers: Frankentoys” will
lead children in turning everyday objects
into Halloween toys. Kids ages
18 months and up can drop in to this
workshop anytime between 10:30
a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 21 and
28. Tickets are $6 for non-members
or $5 for members, plus the cost of
admission.
NYSCI staff will be discussing
the results of their “Carbon Sponge”
study on Oct. 20 from 1 p.m. to 2:30
p.m. The study involved different
techniques in measuring carbon in
the soil and how they can be used to
reduce people’s carbon footprint. This
event is free with admission.
Oct. 21 is Chemistry Day at the New
York Hall of Science. There will be
demonstrations and activities from 11
a.m. to 4 p.m. with hands-on activities
recommended for ages 4 and up. This
event is free with admission.
On Oct. 28 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.,
NYSCI will be having creepy science
activities and demonstrations. Make
fake blood, create a scary costume,
enjoy live music and more. This event
is free with admission. Come in costume
to win a prize!
