Community Arts Day Festival. Our
arts program specializes in providing
access to classical art forms for underprivileged
students/adults of color from
across New York City. We are hosting
a Community Arts Day Festival performance
to raise funds for our fall
programming (Ballet Bedstuy, Street
Dance Conservatory, Brass Key & Vocal,
and Open Adult Class Division) as well
as increase additional support for our
scholarship fund for our most economically
challenged students. We hope this
event will provide exposure to various
performing art forms and artists to our
local community members. Our free
festival will include performances and
classes from a diverse range of upcoming
professional dancers, musicians,
and singers from around the community,
and speeches from various local politicians.
The evening will be in person
and live-streamed via the @bkcenterforarts
Instagram and Brooklyn Center
for the Arts Facebook accounts. 3 – 8

Wellness Community Center on Aug.

and school supply distribution on a

also be a DJ, yoga, and performances.

August 22. Land Markings Exhibition
Opening: Join us in the Great Room
next Sunday for the opening reception
of our latest contemporary art exhibition,
Land Markings. Land Markings
brings together four New York based
artists of Indigenous heritage: Jeremy
Dennis, Dennis RedMoon Darkeem,
Ella Mahoney & Natasha Smoke Santiago,
who have created works commenting
on the past, present and future
of land use in the areas surrounding
OSH. Curated by Katherine Gressel and
RedMoon Arts, Inc. The exhibition will
be on view Fri – Sun from Noon – 3 pm
until Oct. 11. Please note that the Great
Room is on the second floor and unfortunately
is not wheelchair accessible.

Festival Minokan: A Celebration
of Haitian Culture. Festival Minokan
invites all members of the community
to participate in the rich traditions of
Haitian culture and Haitian Vodou.
Together we’ll honor our spirits and
our ancestors, praise the Earth, and
rejoice in song and dance. Join us as
we explore the history of Vodou and the
Haitian diaspora through artist’s talks,
dance, song, and food. This year, Festival
Minokan will be focusing on the
sacred site of Seremoni Petwo (Ceremony

of Shakespeare’s Henry VI trilogy.

N.E.W. (National Expungement Works)
has once again joined forces with
WOCC (Women of Color in Cannabis)
to host an event addressing the growing
issue of food insecurity throughout
local Brooklyn communities. On Friday,
August 20th, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm,
N.E.W. and WOCC will host an F.L.O.
(Food Let Out), food distribution at Drip
Beverage Lounge, located at 830 Rogers
Avenue in Flatbush, Brooklyn. They
invite the community or anyone in need
of fresh produce, pantry items, and beverages.
On hand at this event will be
representatives from N.E.W., creators
of the annual week known throughout
the country and internationally for
legal relief and transformative services
known as National Expungement Week.
This year National Expungement Week,
a project of the organization, evolved
into the N.E.W. Week of Action and
Awareness, a call to action raising the
public’s awareness of the importance
of legal relief in restoring pathways for
generational wealth and healing. This
year, the Week of Action and Awareness
will take place from September 26 –
