It’s a whole new world of
eye care out there, and New
York Laser Vision is at the
cutting edge.
The comprehensive ophthalmology
center uses
the latest technology for
LASIK, thereby making it
safer, says Dr. Julia Giyaur,
its Board-certified ophthalmologist
and ophthalmic
surgeon. It also makes
the procedure quicker and
more comfortable for the patient.
By offering the latest
femtosecond and excimer
lasers, Dr. Giyaur brings to
the forefront an option for
patients who prefer not to
go “under the knife.” Treatment
options are highly
individualized, but whatever
procedure is chosen,
it means saying good-bye to
nearsightedness, farsightedness,
and astigmatism.
Likewise, when it comes
to cataract surgery, the latest
innovations offer patients
the opportunity to
rid themselves of cataracts
and, at the same time, the
need for eyeglasses.
The center takes care of
children’s eyes, too, offering
a technique called Ortho
K which prevents the
progression of nearsightedness,
and eliminates the
need for glasses and contact
lenses.
If you didn’t know all
these options existed, you
aren’t alone. An appointment
with New York Laser
Vision is literally an eyeopener.
The company is an Accredited
Dry Eye Center
that focuses on the treatment
of eyelid disease, and
the subsequent eye dryness
associated with it. It
happens to be a very common
problem. Symptoms
include itchiness, burning,
red eyes, blurred vision,
and the feeling that something
is in the eye. “It may
sound trivial,” says Dr.
Giyaur, “but those who suffer
from untreated dry eye
know how severely and significantly
their lives can be
affected.”
Age, medication, menopause,
allergies, hormones,
and the weather are among
the many reasons why dry
eye occurs. Ointments and
drops can help, but for
those who have been down
that road and still seek relief,
New York Laser Vision
offers another option: Intense
Pulsed Light Treatment.
This option treats
dry eyes that are caused by
issues pertaining to the eye
glands. Typically, patients
will receive between one
and four treatments, spaced
about six weeks apart. “It is
a highly effective treatment
with proven results,” says
the doctor, and can offer
long-lasting relief.
She cautions that, “Using
multiple dry eye treatment
drops and ointments
for years has potential side
effects and is often difficult
for most of our patients.”
It also doesn’t address the
root of the problem: eyelid
inflammation. Pulsed Light
Treatment works because
it utilizes pulses of light to
treat eyelids, causing them
to produce tears, releasing
them to the surface of the
eyes. It also treats blood
vessels on the eyelids that
so often are responsible for
creating a red and inflamed
appearance. Therefore,
redness is significantly reduced.
Come to New York Laser
Vision for eye exams,
as they are an invaluable
tool used to protect good
health. Some diseases develop
slowly, without causing
pain or vision loss, and
early detection can reduce
the risk of further harm.
The center screens for diseases
such as glaucoma and
diabetic retinopathy, both
of which can develop without
noticeable symptoms.
Children should have
regular tests to ensure the
proper development of their
vision and to prevent any
interference with their academic
achievements, says
the doctor.
Most insurance plans
are accepted.
Dr. Giyaur is a secondgeneration
eye surgeon,
following in the footsteps
of her mother, a distinguished
Russian pediatric
ophthalmologist. The doctor
received all her education
and training at some of
the best institutions in the
New York area. She graduated
from NYU with a B.A.
in biology. She received her
Medical Doctorate from
Downstate Medical Center,
and completed her medical
internship at NYU Downtown
Hospital. Her residency
training in ophthalmology
was at NYU/North
Shore University-Long Island
Jewish Medical Center,
where, during her last
year, she was chosen to
serve as a Chief Resident.
Her staff of trained and
competent doctors is ready
to meet the needs of all patients.
