Caribbean American community
leaders in New York
City will hold a massive “Caribbean
Americans For Justice”
march and rally in Brooklyn
on Sunday, June 14.
According to Rickford
Burke, president of the
Brooklyn-based Caribbean
Guyana Institute for Democracy
(CGID), one of the
organizers, the march will
begin at Church and Flatbush
avenues at noon and
proceed north on Flathbush
Avenue to Grand Army Plaza
(intersection circle at Eastern
Partway and Flatbush
Avenue), where the massive
rally will take place.
“This event will demonstrate
Caribbean American
solidarity with African Americans,
and other Americans
who reject police brutality,
racism and injustice,” said
the Guyanese-born Burke,
an international law consultant.
“Organizers will also
present an agenda for tangible,
legislative and policy
reforms at the federal, state
and local levels.

The third of six general elections
in the Caribbean Community
this year is done and
dusted with Prime Minister
Timothy Harris already being
sworn in for a second consecutive
term as head of government
in St. Kitts and Nevis
but even as Trinidad prepares
for its own hour of truth in
the coming weeks, electoral
controversy continues to rage
on in Guyana and neighboring
Suriname.
Governor General Tapley
Seaton administered the oath
to Harris as he promised that “I
would not let down the people
of St. Kitts and Nevis. We shall
create the modern history in
St. Kitts and Nevis by making
the example of the best managed
small island state. That is
my pledge and that is my commitment,”
he said as the twin
island federation settles down
after a bruising campaign.
And while colleague leaders
congratulated the federation
for its well organized polls,
there has been no declaration
of official results in Guyana,
which held its own elections
way back on March 2 as
GECOM, the electoral commission
is now reviewing reports
