Brooklyn Dem Party boss
endorses three women
By Nelson A. King
Brooklyn Democratic Party
leader Rodneyse Bichotte on
Wednesday endorsed three
women in upcoming Democratic
primaries, pointing to each
one’s roots in the communities
they are poised to serve
and their commitment to public
service.
Bichotte – the Haitian American
Assemblywoman from the
42nd Assembly District, comprising
Flatbush and Midwood
– announced her endorsements
of Assemblywoman Tremaine
Wright’s bid to move to the State
Senate, Stefani Zinerman’s bid
to replace Wright in the Assembly,
and Darma Diaz’s bid for
the Bushwick-based 37th Council
district to replace Rafael
Espinal who resigned earlier
this year.
“We are proud that three
women, and three women of
color at that, will be bringing
their experience and their commitment

in service to communities
in which they have served
IN ONE OF PRIM
for decades,” Bichotte said.
“They have been in the front

as they confront the
twin plagues of the coronavirus
and racist policing practices, and
will bring that commitment of
police reforms to the offices
they seek,” she added. “I endorse
them whole-heartedly and urge
Brooklyn Democrats to vote for
them in the primary, whether
by absentee, early voting or on
primary day on June 23.”
Bichotte said she worked
closely with Tremaine as a legislative
colleague, stating that she
has been a team leader in developing
legislation and bringing
resources to Bedford-Stuyvesant,
where she was born and
raised.”
Wright is seeking to replace
the retiring Sen. Velmanette
Montgomery in the 25th Senatorial
District.
“Educated at Duke University
and the University of Chicago
law school, Wright left a major
Manhattan law firm to return
home to open a small business
and embark on a career of public
service, Bichotte said.
“She has worked diligently
in protecting homeowners from
foreclosure and deed theft,” she
said of Wright. “She will serve
with distinction, and I am honored
to endorse her.”
Zinerman, who is seeking
to replace Wright in the 56th
Assembly District, based in
Bedford-Stuyvesant and Crown
Stefani Zinerman (left) and Darna Diaz.
Heights, worked for Montgomery
and as chief of staff
to Councilmember Robert Cornegy,
navigating the city’s budgetary
process to deliver services
and resources to non-profits
throughout her Bedford-Stuyvesant
district, Bichotte said.
A life-long activist and Brooklyn
NAACP leader, she said Zinerman
she has served as chair
of Age-Friendly, an initiative
preparing communities to serve
the aging population in their
midst.
“I have worked with Stefani
personally, and she is astute,
smart and dedicated to effectively
serving the community
she grew up in as a legislator,”
Bichotte said. “We are lucky to
have benefited from Stefanis’
work for many years, and I look
forward to welcoming her as a
legislative colleague as she continues
that life of public service.
Diaz, the current female Democratic
District Leader for
the 54th Assembly District, is
poised to become the new city
councilmember from the Bushwick
based 37th District, left
open when Espinal resigned to
assume leadership of the Freelancers
Union.
Born and raised in Bushwick,
Bichotte said Diaz struggled
with homelessness and
other challenges early in her life
before getting a college degree
from Boricua College and serving
as a social worker.
