Ronnie Smith has called Astoria home for the past twelve years, moving here after a run performing with the casts of CATS and OKLAHOMA! Not too long, thereafter, he merged his passions for the performing arts and photography, starting his headshot business seven years ago—and has been going strong ever since. “I am leaving at the end of the month to travel Southeast Asia in search of a little visual inspiration,” shares the man of many talents. “I find that I learn a lot more about people by using my camera as a tool of exploration. Landscape, food, people, religion— every situation you find yourself in while traveling holds more info than you can absorb in the moment, and being able to relive those moments through the photography allows me time to process and learn from what has been experienced. And let’s be honest—it’s a blast to find your work and fun living in such a symbiotic relationship.” Nelson plans on visiting Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Bali, and Lombok. He will be blogging on his Facebook page and posting tons of daily images on his Instagram. He is even hoping to put together an image book of his travels when he returns, as well as a gallery show. Though he departs in just a few weeks, he will gladly take $100 off for anyone who books a session for April 22nd on and mentions this article. A gorgeous sampling of his headshots and portraits are available on his website. Also, the image on the cover—along with those in the article—can be ordered as prints of any size. 48 | BOROMAG.COM | JANUARY 2015 ARTS
