“What’s next?”
When you think about it, that question is the pinnacle of this time
of year. You’ve worked hard for four years to get to Graduation Day,
that moment when you walk on stage in your cap and gown and
receive the degree that signifies the successful completion of your
studies.
And then, after bidding your teachers farewell and partying with
family and friends, that question springs up. What’s next? In other
words, where do you go from here?
For many, that feeling of uncertainty can feel daunting. But we’ve
been here before, and we know how to help you find the way to
tackling the challenges of post-graduation life.
In this issue, you’ll find some tips on how to find a great job fresh
out of college. We’ll concede that your first full-time gig may not be
everything you dreamed of, but it’s a foot in the door and a regular
paycheck. Acquiring both, however, are big steps toward seeing
your dreams become a reality in the long run.
Your education, more often than not, came with the burden of
student loans. Yes, you can overcome those challenges as well with
a little guidance. We have some tips on how you can do just that.
While you ponder your long-term future, of course, you must also
find some time for yourself to unwind. Summer in the city offers
plenty of ways to do that.
Check out some of the best beach spots in New York City where
you and your friends can bask in the sun and cool off in the water on a
lazy summer day. Enjoy some great music at the many Summerstage
concerts being held citywide. Spend a day taking in some incredible
events across town that you won’t find anywhere else.
Naturally, your mind will circle back to the question I asked at the
beginning. But rather than focusing on the uncertainty, try to view it
in the same way as a famous fictional president.
“What’s next?” was a catchphrase for Jed Bartlet, one of the main
characters in the classic television drama, “The West Wing.” At one
point, he explained what the phrase meant: “When I ask ‘What’s
next?,’ it means I’m ready to move on to other things.”
By graduating, you’ve proven that you are indeed ready for more,
ready to take on the challenges of life outside the classroom. Your
potential is unlimited. All you need to do is go out there and make
it happen.
“So… what’s next?”
