EWR T1 Soars
To New Heights
The Port Authority of New York and
New Jersey acted as one as the Port and
New Jersey lawmakers gathered at Newark
for the ‘Topping out’ ceremony featuring
the lifting of the final exterior
steel beam to Newark Airport’s (EWR)
new Terminal 1, the largest design-build
project in New Jersey history. This girder
topped the new Terminal One which is replacing
current Terminal A at Newark.
On had were many Jersey officials,
workers, labor unions, architects, builders
and service companies all involved
up to this point to produce the huge metal
framework.

A NEW JFK Economic Initiatives Great for all of Queens

The first of a series of initiatives
targeting job opportunities, business
opportunities, and training
and education initiatives to benefit
the local communities around JFK
Airport as part of the $13 billion airport
redevelopment program was
announced on October 15 at the JFK
Redevelopment Community Office
on Jamaica Ave.
Port Authority Executive Director,
Aviation Director Huntley
Lawrence and a host of other Port
ersonnel, elected officials, community
leaders and stakeholders were
there to hear the new initiatives announced.
The initiatives–the first of many
under consideration as part of the
airport’s redevelopment–were developed
by the JFK Advisory Council
and cover three of the Council’s
main areas of focus: jobs in construction
and airport operations
for local residents in Southeast
Queens, business opportunities for
local businesses in Queens, and job
training programs and educational
opportunities for the community.

redevelopment.”
