“Frida Kahlo: Appearances Can Be
Deceiving” offers an intimate look at
the Mexican painter’s life and work,
showing how Kahlo constructed her
public image through clothing, makeup,
and the prosthetics she wore after a
bus accident broke her back at age
18. And if you don’t want to pay for
the Frida Kahlo show, the Museum
still has a stunning collection of
Egyptian artifacts, classic portraits,
and contemporary art on view for a $16
suggested donation.

series of minute-and-a-half long fi lm

screening is hosted by author James

Brooklyn Folk Festival

The 11th annual festival of American
roots music will feature more than 40
acts, workshops, fi lms, and a “banjo
